FAQ

You may have a few questions about the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas and staying with us. The following are some frequently asked questions:

Who can stay?
Immediate family members of seriously ill or injured children under the ages of 19 years who are receiving treatment at a Dallas area hospital may be referred to the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. There is a maximum of four(4) adult guests per room - up to five (5) guests if the 5th guest is an infant or child. The child must have a permanent address at least 40 miles from Dallas. All adults staying in the house must have current, valid photo identification.

How to apply?
A referral must be made by a social worker at the facility where the child is being treated or a Medicaid worker (Medical Transportation). Returning families may call to put their name on our waiting list and call to verify availability the day placement is needed. The Ronald McDonald House reserves the right to verify appointments with the medical service provider.

Does a referral guarantee a room at the RMHD?
With the exception of preauthorized Medicaid, we cannot guarantee placement until the day of need. Families need to call to verify availability the day placement is needed.

How do I get in contact with a social worker?
The patient's nurse or physician should be able to direct you to social services, or you can go to the hospital information desk.

How do I know when a room becomes available?
If or when a room becomes available, RMHD will contact the family and give further instructions about checking into the RMH.

How much does it cost?
The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas requests a contribution of $15 per night per room. This includes lodging, meals, laundry facilities, transportation and other services. If this presents a hardship for a family, arrangements can be made with the Manager on Duty.

How long can I stay at the RMHD?
Length of stay varies and is based on the child's treatment. Long term stays, over 60 days or more, are approved by the House Manager.

What are the hours of the RMHD?
The House is accessible to families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The office is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors are welcome 9 am – 9 pm daily.

• Bedrooms: Each family has a private bedroom.

• Kitchen Facilities: There are two kitchens available in the House. One is a large commercial kitchen where community groups prepare three meals a day for our guests. There is also a Family Kitchen where guests can prepare and store their own food.

• Three Meals a Day: We are proud to be the only House in the country to provide three meals a day, every day of the year.
